OK I have had a lot of silly and fun posts. And quite to my total amazement you have loved my kitty photos. I really thought I would be boring you all to death and I got the opposite results. It's been fun and more will be on the way.
But I have another love and it is Israel. And so this post is going to be informative. And I even venture to say you will read things here today you never knew. I hope it will give you a new perspective and maybe even make you think about why you never knew this before with all the media attention the Middle East gets.
Jews have lived in the land of Israel for the last 3700 years. While the Romans fought the Jews and conquered us, we still lived there under their rule. Many also fled. The Romans changed the name of Judea ( now referred to as the West Bank) to Palestinia to take away the Jewish identity of the country and from the hearts and minds of the people there and surrounding. The Muslims invaded this same land in the 7th Century.
Fast forward to 1882 when large amounts of Jews from all over the world started to immigrate to then Palestine, a territory under British rule, fewer than 250,000 arabs lived there. In 1919 the First Congress of Muslim-Christian Associations met in Jerusalem for the Paris Peace Conference and said,"We consider Palestine as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at any time. We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic and geographical bonds."

Ya know I have never been there but it has been part of my life since birth...I have planted a whole forest there and I'm a life time member of Hadassah. We are supposed to go next year for a Bar Mitzvah. If only my kids felt the same way. I wanted them to go on the "Birthright" trip to Israel but they said no. Maybe when they are older and wiser they will.
I haven't been either. I was afraid to go in college and the situation has only gotten worse. So in hindsight I wish I did go.
Not sure why your kids don't want to go. Hope it is not due to liberal media bashing. Oh well. Maybe somedays.
I had the pleasure of visiting in 1994. I'd love to return.
LUCKY DROWSEY! Let's plan our trip together.
When I was younger my Grandmother was going to take me and my cousins, but the timing never worked out. :( She has lived there off for a good portion of her life. My Aunt and Uncle live there now, and I was going to see them in 96, but the war broke out when I was in Greece, so I didn't venture over. They were in and out of the bomb shelter for most of the summer. :(
*Sigh* One day I'll go! :)
