Who Is Sarah Palin?

Here's some 411 that the NY Daily News told us about Ms. Palin:

"she blew the whistle on sleazy dealings and stood up to Big Oil power players. She refused to accept money from Washington for the notorious Bridge to Nowhere. And she has called for opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling, a step opposed by McCain.
Alaskans love her. In her second year as governor, Palin's approval rating tops 80%. In politics, that's higher than Mount McKinley. Married to an oil-field production operator on Alaska's North Slope, [he's a union member] she presents an image of the American family that many will identify with. Her oldest son enlisted in the Army last Sept. 11 and will deploy to Iraq this Sept. 11. And she has credibility with the pro-life right: She's an evangelical Christian who refused to abort her infant son after learning he would be born with Down syndrome. "

So far what I am hearing and reading I am comfortable with. Does Ms. Palin share all my views on all the issues? No she doesn't. If I were to try to choose a candidate based on all the issues I could never choose anyone. I'd waste my time getting caught up in all the little details rather than seeing the bigger picture of the person. I want to know how and why a person lives and chooses what they do choose. What does that mean?

It means this: if she says she's pro-life (which I do not agree with personally) how does she live her life? She's a mother of five at the age of 44. She knew her last child would, if she went to term, be born and live with downs syndrome yet she held firm to her beliefs.

It doesn't mean I will start questioning her ethnic background (as was done to me this weekend, for which I will write about in another post), and then try to show how where her parents or grandparents or possibly great grandparents came from can somehow prove that she is too biased visa vie all the prejudice and racisit beliefs that must have been passed down to her and therefore prove that she is not an intelligent pick and that all her choices are tainted and wrong because of her familial background. THAT WOULD BE A PERSONAL ATTACK.

It means I will look at what she says she stands for and then look at her HER HER HER HER actions and see if they match up or show that she is full of shit about what she says she stands for.

That is MY VALUE system. Look at each person as an individual. What do they say and then what do they do.

For all those same reasons I cannot stand behind Obama. He claims he is not racist and yet sat in a racist church with a racist preacher for 20 years. The racist preacher married him and his wife and baptised his children. His words and actions don't match. Obama states in his own book, "The Audactiy of Hope", that he sought this type of church out, went to it, and then decided to join it precisely because of its theology/ideology and its activism in this regard.

Who is the leading pioneer of the church's ideology? James Hal Cone.

Here's what Cone himself said:
"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love." - "Divine Racism: The Unacknowledged Threshold Issue for Black Theology", in African-American Religious Thought: An Anthology, by William R Jones, ed Cornel West and Eddie Glaube (Westminster John Knox Press).

More quotes of Cone:
"There is no use for a God who loves white oppressors the same as oppressed blacks. We have had too much of white love, the love that tells blacks to turn the other cheek and go the second mile."

"Black hatred is the black man's strong aversion to white society. No black man living in white America can escape it... While it is true that blacks do hate whites, black hatred is not racism. "

Jeff Head states so eloquently the following on his blog about the origins of this racist hate bating church,"It is in no way related to, or derived from American foreign policy or society. The fact is America, despite its problems and mistakes, has set more people free (even through a horrific civil war of our own) and and given them individual liberty (and thus individual accountability) and therefore truly assisted more people's on this earth than any other nation on it. She governs 8000 people. That's like being the student council president and she can't take care of her family why is she trying to spend even more time away from them.

Heidi, wow you're back again... first thank you for your other wonderful comment which was all about ME and your hate for me which is not going to post because here we stay on topic. I never attack people because of where they are from but I do sometimes lay into them and hit BACK for their personal stupidity! Which is usually what I do with you cause stupid is as stupid does!

Second, As of 2005, Alaska has an estimated population of 663,661. As for Palin's family, well I guess we just do not agree on this one. It appears to me that her kids are well-dressed, well-fed, educated properly and that none of them have committed a murder or other crime. She has a 17year-old daughter who had sex and got PG.

In Canada, where you are from the stats from the year 2002 Canadian Teen Pregnancy Rates Per 1,000 Among 15-17 and 18-19 Year-Olds, 18.1 57.1 33.9.

It's a situation that troubles both American and Canadian society. Although biologically teens having sex is actually the most normal thing from a scientfic standpoint. Socially it creates other problems as we live long lives today.

As for the USA:
Between 1995 and 2002, U.S. teen pregnancy rates declined by almost one-quarter (24%). The new study examines the data to determine the relative contributions of abstinence and contraceptive use to this decline.

So curious, why do you not hold her husband to the same standards or a male politician with young children. Can you say Hypocrite?

Heidi, BTW here's what your emperor, Obama, himself said about the situation you make mention of "candidates' children are off limits. "

A New Yorker said...

"It is off limits to talk about her family," Biden said in an interview with "Fox and Friends" on Fox News Channel. "Every family has difficulty as they're raising their children. I think the way she's handled it has been absolutely exemplary."

Isn't it amazing that the media avoids printing what you did?
Talk about manipulation: last night, one person on a chatboard wrote how awful it was that McCain never showed up, and she watched all the Convention coverage. Turns out, her network cut away before the end. So, anyone watching that channel, got an altered view of the event.
The media drives politics today, rather than the opposite, it seems.

Jess, I like her too for similar reasons. She is a strong woman and isn't afraid to just be who she is. I really respect that. Her particular politics can be debated and worked out on issues I staunchly oppose and some middle ground can be found I believe, in time.

D.O.M., The media is so biased in such a terrible way. What they did to Israel they are now doing to our own country. It's rather sad that people don't look at what is NOT being said or shown to get the full picture.

Thanks to all for popping in today.
