Carroll Street, Brooklyn

I happened to be near the street and building where my mother grew up. 1730 Carroll Street.

Mom has great memories of growing up there. She said it was great to be so close to Lincoln Terrace Park and she never felt poor, although she realized later on as an adult that she was poor.

She always talks about how everyone knew everyone and what a great community it was.

So I thought since I already had my camera with me I'd drive by and take some photos for her. I didn't realize just how funny this one was until I got home and put it on the computer. If you haven't spotted it yet, just look at the one way sign.

Sadly I think that does describe the neighborhood today.

You say she did not no she was poor living back then. In my opinion, family, friends, and community are what makes a person rich. Your post has made me want to log off and call some family and friends.

I agree with "lot 2 learn" and your Mom's view ~ it's the joy in the person's life that makes them rich. It's wonderful that she didn't know she was poor. Says a lot about her. So sad about the sign and the reality.
