I had a very upsetting situation happen to me at a government affiliated/run college back in March. While I cannot go into any details about it at this time here's what I can say. The way the people who were supposed to be on my side, "friends" used me and treated me and the organizations that they begged me to work with threw me under the bus making my personal situation worse than when it started has taught me a big lesson: I am for myself only.
I don't know the following two women well, but from following them online, their blogs and articles they seem to show a consistency of being truth tellers and not running with the herd. They are Phyllis Chesler and Debbie Schlussel. They might even hate/dislike each other for all I know. But outside of these two women I am disgusted by the Jewish community at large both on the right as well as the left.
So from this point forward I am for MYSELF.

Rule 1: Always act in your own best interest. (best interest = the goals you set for yourself, your future, your life and pursuit of happiness)
Rule 2: Allow no harm, unless it serves Rule 1. (harm = actions that prevent the attainment of your goals. Sometimes things are in conflict. A relationship is a fundamental violation of rule 2 because relationships require compromise. However, a relationship may be one of your goals and therefore you must at times compromise. When a relationships harm exceeds it's benefit, the violation of rule 2 demands ending it).
Rule 3: Everything else is ok as long as it doesn't violate rule 2. (if an action doesn't impact your goals, whether you do it or not is preference, desire. Eating at a nice restaurant doesn't generally impact your goals, so do, or don't do - your choice. However, if you have to borrow to do so, it probably DOES impact your goals).
In all things, if you don't protect yourself, family and future, you can be no benefit to anyone else.
I'm sorry someone threw you under the bus. It seems that's what this world is about these days. I know how passionate you are about your views and how much it means to you.
